چکیده

Stonefish are regarded as one of the most venomous fish in world. Research on stonefish venom has chiefly focused vitro and vivo neurological, cardiovascular, cytotoxic nociceptive effects venom. The last literature review was published over a decade ago, much changed field since. In this review, we have generated global map current distribution all (Synanceia) species, presented table clinical case reports provided up-to-date information about development polyspecific antivenom. We also an overview recent advancements biomolecular composition venom, including analysis transcriptomic proteomic data from Synanceia horrida gland. Moreover, highlights need for further research properties which may reveal novel molecules drug discovery, or other physiological uses.

Trachynilysin, a neurosecretory protein isolated from stonefish (Synanceia trachynis) venom, forms nonselective pores in the membrane of NG108-15 cells.

Trachynilysin, a protein toxin isolated from the venom of the stonefish Synanceia trachynis, has been reported to elicit massive acetylcholine release from motor nerve endings of isolated neuromuscular preparations and to increase both cytosolic Ca2+ and catecholamine release from chromaffin cells. In the present study, we used the patch clamp technique to investigate the effect of trachynilysi...

Viper venom components affecting angiogenesis.

Angiogenesis is a complex process consisting of the proliferation, migration and differentiation of endothelial cells, and it is essential for the progression of malignant solid tumors. In this report, we examine the effects of disintegrins (e.g. rhodostomin and accutin) and glycoprotein-lb-binding proteins (e.g. agkistin) on each step in angiogenesis using in vitro and in vivo models. Rhodosto...

Identification of the reaction products of the purified hyaluronidase from stonefish (Synanceja horrida) venom.

Recently we purified to homogeneity hyaluronidase from stonefish (Synanceja horrida) venom, for the first time from a marine source [Poh, Yuen, Chung & Khoo (1992) Comp. Biochem. Physiol., in the press]. In the present study the reaction products of the hyaluronidase purified from stonefish venom were analysed. It produced tetra-, hexa-, octa- and deca-saccharides as major end products, but not...

Stonefish antivenom neutralises the inflammatory and cardiovascular effects induced by scorpionfish Scorpaena plumieri venom.

Venomous fish are often involved in human accidents and symptoms of envenomation include local (intense pain and swelling) and systemic effects (cardiovascular and neurological disorders). However the only commercially available antivenom is against the Indo-Pacific stonefish Synanceja trachynisStonefish Antivenom (SFAV). The aim of the present study was to evaluate the potential of SFAV in neu...
